Ca. 200 leaves of good laid paper bound in pale boards with light brown linen spine; spine & covers soiled & worn, some light internal foxing; a nice blank book. There are two ink inscriptions on the first leaf: 'Poems:—/ Leonard Charles Van Noppen/ Aug 9 - 1900 —/ The Hague/ Holland' with the dates 1910-1918 added; the second inscription, in another hand: 'The Parthenon/ and Other Poems/ by/ Leonard Van Noppen' is dated 1918. There is a two-line quotation from Donne inside the rear cover. The Dutch-born poet, a U.S. naval attaché in The Hague and London during the first World War, lived in New York and lectured on Dutch language and literature. Stock#25294.
