Quarter rose cloth with dark blue paper-covered boards, top edge dyed brown, mustard endpapers, [vii], 303, [9] pp. Stated first with complete number line on last page. Spine cocked, spine ends turned in and a bit rubbed, top edges of boards bumped, boards faded near edges. DJ front panel has a 9 cm tear with crease along fore-edge, slight rubbing & edge wear, front flap has a sticker scar in white space, an old price in pen, and a crease along edge; in Brodart archival cover. The main character in this novel is Hugh Champlain, president of an iron mining company. It follows his personal tribulations and the industry's struggles to convert taconite into high-grade ore.
