First Edition. Signed by Author on half-title. 21 X 14½ cm. G+/G+. Pastel green cloth with brown titles & dec. on spine, dec. on front board, device on rear board, ix, 270, [2] pp. Cloth snagged at lower corner of front board, else VG, cloth faded and somewhat worn at top & bottom edges. DJ rubbed, chipped, torn, and soiled with a few small water spots, but substantially complete; in Brodart archival cover. After a brief description of the South as it was during his childhood and changes wrought by the war, Rowan, a Minneapolis Tribune reporter and president of the Minneapolis Urban League, describes conditions (i. e., race relations) as observed during 6000-mile tour of the South.
