Detailed Information for Seller's item number: 6551
OF OCCULT PHILOSOPHY: BOOK FOUR, MAGICAL CEREMONIES.
Author: Agrippa, Cornelius.
Publisher: Gillette, NJ Heptangle 1985

Set in Monotype No 58, printed letterpress on acid-free paper; Title page printed in red and black; Edited and translated by Robert Turner; Includes Agrippa's foreword to the first three books and 'Heptameron or Magical Elements" of Peter De Adano as an appendix; 93 pages Very good condition in a near very good dust jacket, bottom edge of boards soiled Despite the title 'Book Four' this is a collection of ceremonies and practical details designed to support the theory presented in the first three books. Direct authorship by Agrippa is questionable though attribution to his circle or school is not. In his foreword Agrippa acknowledges that many will condemn him out-of-hand for writing books with titles such as 'Occult Philosophy' or 'Magical Ceremonies' and assume he is merely a vain sorcerer. However, he reminds us that in its origin 'magic' is akin to wisdom and while there are many details in his writings that explain the base and criminal methods of sorcerers his intentions are to bring to light the details for the acquisition of wisdon and the understanding of the funtioning of the base.
