Synopsis or Publisher's Description: "While hitchhiking to his aunt's house in Texas, an orphan named Josh is mugged and left injured on the side of the road. Luckily, Josh is rescued by an older woman who brings him to her village and nurses him back to health. As Josh recovers, he realizes that he is living in a community known as the "Melungeons, " a group of "persecuted people with roots deep in the American past." Unfortunately for Josh, anyone who enters the community, even strangers like himself, are not allowed to leave. As Josh contemplates life in this odd but strangely inviting community, he comes to terms with questions about his own future."
