The First Expedition of Vargas Into New Mexico: Coronado Cuarto Centennial Publications, Volume X.
Author: Espinosa, J. Manuel (translator, with introduction and notes). Publisher: Albuquerque NM: University of New Mexico Press, 1940.
First Edition Small quarto, about 10.5 inches tall, in red cloth. 319 pages illustrated by frontis portrait. Front and bottom edges untrimmed. An important collection of primary source documents related to the reconquest of New Mexico following the Indian uprisings of 1680. Vargas was appointed governor in 1690. This is the 10th volume in the publisher's series of the early history of the Spanish in the southwest U.S. Clean, bright and sound inside. The covers are unworn, but the spine is lightly sunned with some fading to the adjacent front cover and top front. The rear cover shows some dulling of the finish from fingerprints. The jacket is complete with just a couple of tiny edge tears, but the spine has a clear vertical crease, and there his a horizontal crease all the way around. The jacket had been folded and enclosed, thus the spine sunning. Hardcover Hardcover Very Good+ in Very Good Dustjacket
