The first volume provides a chronicle of events, communities and people in Pecos County in West Texas. Volume 1 & 2 were compiled by the Pecos County Historical Commission from 1973 -1983. The first volume presents the prehistory of the Pecos County along with natural resources, such springs, Leon Water Holes, creeks, geology, topography and minerals, vegetation, plants of Western Texas and fauna. It describes some of the early trails and military in the area. It covers farming, ranching, minerals, conveyance, treasures and catastrophes in the area. Fort Stockton is the county seat of Pecos County. Volume 2 contains the family histories.
