Canal, by the author at Lock #44, Williamsport, MD. Color added." Includes card for ordering copies of the book, (card states first, second and third editions all had 1500 cc's each available), inscribed & SIGNED by author on the title page. Book tells of esistence of life on the C. & O. Canal, of the boisterous life of "Shanty Town" and provides an insight into the everyday life of the Canallers, the hardships & difficulties & the satisfactions. The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal paralelled the Potomac River from Washington, DC to Cumberland, Maryland, a distance of 185 miles. Used seventy-five locks for eight-foot lift on each. small tear in ffep, prev owner wrote name on ffep.
