WATKINS: A FEW OLD FAVORITES

Bright orange, black, and white printed paper wraps depicting a family gathered around the piano singing 'old favorites.' This is an advertising booklet for Watkin's linement which presents a nice selection of standard songs, including the Star Spangled Banner, Old Oaken Bucket, Little Drops of Water, Soldier's Farewell, In the Gloaming, Old Black Joe, and many others that the average person was expected to know at mid-20th Century. The booklet is not dated, but from about 1938-1940. It's chock full of ads and testimonials for Watkin's linement, with photos of many individuals - sometimes with livestock - and claims for everything from curing sore throats to scours in calves. There is no indication that application of the linement must be accompanied by singing, but it couldn't hurt. Just don't stand behind the horse while doing so. Very slight toning to pages, short clean split at spine head, minor spine wear, a very clean and bright copy suitible for collection or display.
