Gregory Benford
Physicist and award-winning science fiction author. Benford is on the faculty of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of California, Irvine. As a novelist, he writes "hard" science fiction, a subgenre characterized by attention to in scientific detail or accuracy. He has been nominated for four Hugo Awards and 12 Nebula Awards, and has won the Nebula Award 3 times, as well the John W. Campbell Memorial Award. He has claimed to have created and written about the first computer virus in the late 1960s.
