Menachem Begin
Former Prime Minister of Israel and Nobel Peace Prize laureate. Menachem Wolfovitch Begin (1913 – 1992) was the first member of the nationalist annd conservative Likud Party to become Prime Minister, an office he held from 1977 until his resignation in 1983. He was the author of two books: The Revolt, which is his account of the Zionist underground group Irgun’s fight against the British Mandate of Palestine, and White Nights: The story of a prisoner in Russia.
