Sample Autograph Signature: Harvey Kurtzman

American cartoonist, writer and editor best known for his comic book MAD. Harvey Kurtzman (1924-1993) founded the comic book Mad in 1952 while working at EC Comics where he also created Two-Fisted Tales and Frontline Combat. Before leaving EC in 1957, after being denied a controlling interest in Mad, he had created the image later named Alfred E. Neuman, MAD's famous mascot. That same year, Kurtzman created the short-lived satire magazine Trump for Playboy publisher Hugh Hefner. This was followed by the comic-size Humbug in 1958, then Help! magazine. Perhaps equally well known is his Little Annie Fanny stories which premiered in Playboy in 1962 and continued until 1988. MAD's impact on popular culture lead the New York Times to conclude that Kurtzman had been "one of the most important figures in postwar America." He is also often considered the father of the underground comix.
