Sample Autograph Signature: Eddie Kramer

American audio engineer/producer who served the late 20th century's most renown rock musicians. Eddie Kramer was born in 1941 in Cape Town, South Africa and raised by a South African father and British mother. Although he studied classical piano, cello and violin at the prestigious South African College of Music while also completing his last few years of high school, his exposure to 1950s American rock 'n' roll and jazz caused him to switch his interest from classical to jazz, blues, rock 'n' roll and other popular music. He moved to London in December of 1960 where he worked as a messenger boy. Visits to a TV production company located in the same building where he worked inspired him to pursue a career as a sound engineer. He found a job as an assistant at the Advision Studio in London where he learned the basics while recording local jazz groups in his home-based studio. Pye Studios hired Kramer in 1964 where he was assigned to work with Sammy Davis Jr., Petula Clark, and the Kinks. During the mid- to late '60s, he did the classic recordings by the Rolling Stones, the Beatles and Jimi Hendrix among others. In 1968 Kramer moved to New York City where he helped Hendrix create and design a recording studio, and then became its Director of Engineering from 1970 1974. In addition to producing the posthumous Hendrix records, he also worked with Vanilla Fudge, Joe Cocker and NRBQ, produced Johnny Winter's first LP, and began engineering for Led Zeppelin. Soon afterwards, he was recruited to record the best-selling Woodstock soundtrack, making him one of the most sought-after live albums producers of the era. He went on to serve the production needs of such diverse artists as Kiss, John Mayall, Peter Frampton, Curtis Mayfield, Santana, David Bowie, Carly Simon, Sha Na Na, Dionne Warwick, Lena Horne and Derek & the Dominoes. Kramer spent the 1980s producing and engineering primarily heavy metal acts, but returned in the 1990s to projects with Kiss and numerous posthumous Hendrix projects. Kramer co-authored HENDRIX- Setting the Record Straight With John McDermott in 1992, and Jimi Hendrix Sessions: The Complete Studio Recording Sessions, 1963-1970 with McDermott and Billy Cox in 1995.
