George Clayton Johnson
American science fiction, television, and screenplay writer. George Clayton Johnson was born into a poor family in Cheyenne, Wyoming. His mother was an alcoholic and he spent much of his youth in an orphanage. While he loved to read, his education did not go beyond the eighth grade. After briefly serving in the U. S. Army and working for an architect, he drifted to Southern California in 1950 where he met Charles Beaumont and his circle of writer friends who included such science-fiction notables as William F. Nolan, Charles Beaumont, Richard Matheson and Ray Bradbury. Mentored by Ray Bradbury, and with the help of Beaumont, Johnson sold his first story, All of Us Are Dying, to The Twilight Zone. It was produced in January 1960 as The Four of Us Are Dying. He later wrote seven more scripts and stories for The Twilight Zone, as well as the screenplays for the feature films Ocean's 11 and Logan's Run and the teleplays for Honey West, the original Star Trek, and Kung Fu. He is most famous as the co-author with William F. Nolan of the 1976 novel Logan's Run (1976).
