Jerry B. Jenkins
American author of novels, mysteries, biographies, non-fiction, and children's fiction. Jerry B. Jenkins was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1949. He briefly attended Moody Bible Institute of Chicago after graduating from high school, but realized his real interest was in becoming a sportswriter and turned to writing sports stories for a suburban newspaper. In 1974 Jenkins returned to Moody to work for the college's, Moody Magazine, eventually becoming its Editor, and then vice president for publishing for the Institute. Currently, he is a writer-at-large for the Institute. Jenkins has authored more that 160 books, 16 of which have reached the New York Times bestseller list. He is best known as Tim LaHaye's co-author of the phenomenally popular Left Behind series, novels based on a dispensational premillennialism interpretation of Christian evangelical fundamentalism. Less well known are his series The Margo Mysteries and The Jennifer Grey Mysteries, and six series of children's fiction. Jenkins's non-fiction books include numerous "as-told-to" biographies of sports celebrities, five books on marriage and family, and co-authorship of Billy Graham's 1997 autobiography, Just As I Am. His writings have also appeared in many periodicals, including Time , Reader's Digest, Parade, Guideposts, and many Christian periodicals. From 1996 to 2004, Jenkins was the writer for the sports-oriented comic strip Gil Thorp. Jenkins Entertainment, a filmmaking company in Los Angeles owned by Jenkins, produced Hometown Legend in 2002; and he also owns the Christian Writers Guild, which operates an e-mail correspondence course to train professional Christian writers. Based on his work, Jenkins has been awarded honorary doctorates from Bethel College (Indiana) and Trinity International University (Illinois).
