Sheldon Jaffery
American bibliographer and anthologist of horror and science fiction; expert on Arkham House. Sheldon Ronald Jaffery (1934 - 2003) of Beachwood, Ohio graduated from Case Law School in 1964. He practiced law in Beachwood specializing as a defense lawyer in personal injury cases. Although he was also a bookdealer, he was best known as bibliographer and anthologist. He was collector of and an expert on Arkham House, and also the author of Horrors and Unpleasantries: A bibliographical history & collectors' price guide to Arkham House (1982) and The Arkham House Companion: Fifty Years of Arkham House: A bibliographical history and collector's price guide to Arkham House and Mycroft & Moran including the revised and expanded horrors and unpleasantries (1989). Other bibliographies include The Collector's Index to Weird Tales published in 1985 with Fred Cook, Double Trouble: A Bibliographic Chronicle of Ace Mystery Doubles (1987), Future and Fantastic Worlds: A Bibliographic Retrospect of Daw Books (1987), and Double Futures: An Annotated Bibliography of the Ace Science Fiction Doubles (1999). Jaffrey also edited eight anthologies of horror and science fiction from horror and spicy pulps. He also wrote at least one short story, "The Host", which appeared in Space & Time magazine in 1986. Jaffery received The Hammer Award in 1998 from the Horror Writers Association, a group he had legally incorporated in March of 1987.
