American short story and screen writer. Maurice Alexander Hanline (1895 - 1964) was born in Baltimore, MD to German immigrant parents. While at the time of the 1920 Baltimore census, his occuption was listed as "author," the only reference available of any work by a Maurice Hanline prior to 1935 is a poem published in the January 1920 Contemporary Verse titled Drinks. He moved to Los Angeles in 1930 where he was employed as a screen writer. His first credit was the 1935 The Lottery Lover. Later credits included One Rainy Afternoon, Gentlemen After Midnight, Four Wives, and Steel Against the Sky. He was also the author of a novel, Years of Indiscretion: Life of Jason the Magnificent published by the Macaulay Company in 1934. There is also a script of a "teleplay," On Fifth Avenue, attributed to Albert J. Cohen and a Maurice A. Hanline referenced in the collection of the former's papers. It is, however, undated. Mention should be made that there was also a Maurice A. Hanline who was a vice president at the publishing firms of Horace Liveright and Boni and Liveright during the 1920s and 1930s who corresponded with major American writers on behalf those firms.
