Sample Autograph Signature: Fritjof Capra

Austrian-born American physicist, systems theorist, and author. After receiving his Ph.D. in theoretical physics from the University of Vienna in 1966, Capra conducted research in particle physics and systems theory at various universities and laboratories until 1989. Along the way, he also taught at the University of California and San Francisco State University. His writing, however, has explored the philosophical and social implications of contemporary science. His first book, The Tao of Physics: An Exploration of the Parallels Between Modern Physics and Eastern Mysticism was published in 1975 and became a best seller. Having gone through many editions in 14 languages, it remains a classic among popular books on the implications of comtemporary physics. Since then, he has written extensively on how the abandonment of mechanistic and reductionistic ideas in modern physics, and the study of non-linear systems, has and will shift the paradigms of other sciences, including the biological and social. More recently he is focused heavily on the application of systems and complexity theory to ecological sustainability, but also has applied it to economic globalization and business management. His interest in the politics of ecology was manifest in Green Politics which he co-authored with Charlene Spretnak in 1984. Capra also co-wrote the screenplay for for Mindwalk, a 1990 film loosely based on his 1982 book The Turning Point: Science, Society, and the Rising Culture. Some of his other popular books include Uncommon Wisdom, The Web of Life, and The Hidden Connections: A Science for Sustainable Living. Capra is also founding director of the Center for Ecoliteracy which promotes ecology and systems thinking in primary and secondary education.
