Sample Autograph Signature: Charles Farwell Edson

California poet and husband of Katherine Philips Edson. Charles Farwell Edson (1863 - 1936) was a little-known California poet mentioned most often as the husband of Katherine Philips Edson (1870 - 1933), an American social reformer, feminist, and suffragist who was responsible for the minimum wage bill passed by the California Legislature in 1913. She was also a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1920, and appointed by President Harding as a member of the advisory committee of the Conference on the Limitation of Armaments in 1921. He met his wife in Chicago and they moved to California where they divorced in 1925. Edson published two collections of poems, West in 1910, and Debt which was undated. In 1916, he provided the poems for Los Angeles From the Sierras to the Sea, a collection of etchings and drawings by Marion Holden Pope. The 1916 edition of illustrator Joseph Pennell's San Francisco, the City of the Golden Gate contained 25 of his poems on leaves of thinner paper inserted facing Pennell's plates.
