Tom Dunn
American editor and publisher, and international icon of pipe smoking and tobacciana. Thomas Allan Dunn (1938 - 2005) of College Point, New York graduated in 1969 from New York University and joined the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, beoming the Human Resources Manager before his retirement in 1991.
In 1964, he founded the Universal Coterie of Pipe Smokers and its journal, The Pipe Smoker's Ephemeris, of which he was the editor and publisher. The journal, devoted to pipe smoking and all matters related thereto, was distributed internationally without a subscription fee. Dunn published two bound editions of past issues of the journal, and also edited many editions of The Universal Coterie Of Pipe Smokers Collectors Directory. After his death, his extensive library on tobacciana was donated to the University of Alabama.
Despite international celebrity and selflessness, he remained reclusive, unpretentious and shy, avoiding public appearances and declining all honors and awards.
