Richard C. Datin
Retired modelmaker and Reno, Nevada historian. Datin is a retired professional modelmaker who built scale models for the studios in Hollywood, architectural and engineering scale models, full-size mockups, miniature props for Speedy Alka Seltzer, Sugar Jets cereal, and Jolly Green Giant TV commercials. He also created several models for the original "Star Trek" TV series, including the U.S.S. Enterprise starship, and a model for the Cannonball Express in the "Petticoat Junction" TV series. Later, he was the model shop supervisor for the Marine Division of Litton Industries, and then at the Bechtel Power Corp. After his retirement, he moved to Nevada where he concentrated on writing and publishing history books about Reno, and also became the founding curator of the Nevada State Railroad Museum.
