Margaret Tante Burk
Former Public Relations Director of the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. In the 1940s, Saturday night meant sitting by the radio to listen to live coast to coast broadcasts from the "world-famous, star-studded Cocoa-nut Grove in the Ambassador Hotel." The Ambassador had been the favorite haunt of Hollywood's aristocracy. Burk, who had been a vice president of a savings and loan on Wilshire Boulevard, became the first female president of the Wilshire Chamber of Commerce and presided over their meetings and functions at the Ambassador Hotel. She was offered the public relations position at the hotel and became something of a celebrity herself. Burk described her experiences, and much of the hotel's history, in her book Are the Stars Out Tonight? The Story of the Famous Ambassador and Cocoanut Grove "Hollywood's Hotel".
