Sample Autograph Signature:
Rita Mae Brown
Bestselling American novelist, poet and screenwriter, political activist, and farmer. Except for Brown's mysteries, her novels resist neat categorization. While she writes from a lesbian/feminist perspective, the subject of her novels range from foxhunting to the World War II homefront and the recreation of the life of Dolley Madison. Brown graduated from New York University with a B.A. in English and the Classics. While there, she published two collections of feminist poetry: The Hand that Cradles the Rock and Songs to a Handsome Woman. In 1973, she received a Ph.D. from the Institute for Policy Studies in Washington D.C. She has been active in the Civil Rights Movement, the Anti-War movement, the Gay Liberation movement, and the Feminist movement. With Sneaky Pie Brown, she has co-authored thirteen Mrs. Murphy mysteries featuring Sneaky Pie's fellow cats. Perhaps less well known, are her non-fiction works which include an autobiography, a provocative writer's manual, a collection of her political articles, and a cookbook. As a television writer, she won Emmy nominations for her ABC series, I Love Liberty and for the NBC mini-series The Long Hot Summer.
