American actor, writer, director, and producer. Born Melvin Kaminsky, Brooks is best
known for his film farces and satires. He started out in show business as a stand-up comic
before becoming a comedy writer for television. He later concentrated solely on film and
theatre as an actor, director, writer and producer. In 1980, he set up Brooksfilm and
has since produced a number of non-comedy films. He has been nominated several times for
Academy Awards, and the recipient of Oscar, Emmy, Tony, and Grammy awards.
