Synopsis or Publisher's Description: Fats Waller began playing in local churches before moving on to accompany Harlem's vaudeville acts and silvent film stars. After each show, he played with the ragtime and stride pianists in some of the area's first nightclubs where the art of jazz piano was born. This program examines Waller's career and his role in the New York literary, artistic and political movement of the 1920s known as the Harlem Renaissance. Riddled with black American jive talk of the period and enhanced by performance footage, the program portrays Waller's music as a unique form of self-expression.
