A salesman's sample copy, so only the first 123 pages of the book followed by blank lined paper interleaved with blotter paper for taking orders. These latter pages are unused. The book's cover shows the spine of the clothbound version. Spines showing the sheep and the morocco bindings are shown inside the front cover. Text mildly toned; tissue guard for frontis modestly foxed, but no foxing elsewhere. Early printing Two volumes, 12mo, 7.5 inches (19 cm) tall, in black marbled paper covered boards with leather spine and corners, marbled edges. Volume I: 312 pages, Volume II: 322 pages. A very early printing ("Tenth Thousand") of Stowe's famous anti slavery novel. The books are moderately worn on the edges and the spine ends but they remain attractive. There is occasional foxing, and there a piece of tape on the volume I front endpaper. The edges of all the endpapers are moderately toned from offsetting of the leather turn-ins. Finally, volume II has a dark brown spot on the top edge of the block that has bled into the paper for about a 100 pages displaying a spot of about the size of a half dime but not affecting the text. Volume II also has a light previous owner stamp on the front endpaper. The bindings are sound. Hardcover Hardcover Very Good
