Publisher: Printed by A. Reilly, for Edward Exshaw, at the Bible on Cork-Hill, Dublin. M,DCC,XLIV /1744.. FULL TITLE: "The Ancient and Present State of the County of Down. Containing a chorographical description, with the natural and civil history of the same. Illustrated By Observations made on the Baronies, Parishes, Towns, Villages, Churches, Abbeys, Charter Schools, Mountains, Rivers, Lakes, Medicinal and other Springs, &c. With a survey of the new canal; as also, A New and Correct map of the County." [i-iii], iv - xviii, [xix], xx, 1 - 271, blank, [21], [1], 2 - 16 pp. 8vo. Leather with gilt-letters & 5 raised bands on spine. Laid paper. Errata printed on last page (xx) of "Contents of the Chapters." Printed marginalia. An extensive revision of "A topographical and chorographical survey of the county of Down" printed in 1740. The presence of printed errata, the appendix, and the advertisements of another publisher, suggest this is a second edition of the Exshaw edition printed for Walthoe, perhaps shortly after the death of Exshaw in 1748. Front cover missing with 1st signature partially detached, back cover & spine have extensive damage (SEE SCAN), a called-for folded map frontispiece has been removed, very occasional small spots of foxing on interior leaves o/w Good, i.e. obvious signs of use with no major defects.
