James Alexander Thom was born in Gosport, Indiana, on May 28, 1933, and it was there in Owen County that Thom grew up. Much of his career has been in the journalism field with the Indianapolis Star, The Saturday Evening Post, and as lecturer at Indiana University, Bloomington. However, Thom's love for Indiana's history and landscapes has kept him in Owen County. He is married to Dark Rain Thom, a member of the Shawnee National Tribe, of which Thom is an honorary member.
A bestselling master of historical fiction, James Alexander Thom has brought unforgettable Native American figures to life for millions of readers, powerfully dramatizing their fortitude, fearsomeness, and profound fates. In his most current book he and his wife, Dark Rain, have created Warrior Woman, a magnificent portrait of an astonishing woman—one who led her people in war when she could not persuade them to make peace.
