Wolfe was born in NY and now resides in IL. He was trained and worked as an
engineer before taking the position of editor of Plant Engineering magazine,
a trade periodical, in 1972. He retired from this position in 1984 and has
written full-time ever since. Wolfe is considered by many to be the premier
science fiction stylist, and by Clute and Nicholls (ENCYCLOPEDIA OF SCIENCE
FICTION, 1995) as one of the most important science fiction writers writing
today. Certainly, the Book of the New Sun series ranks high on nearly every
science fiction reader's list of favorites.
